Robert Redford: Tree hugger or Klu Klux Klan member?

The Congress of National Equality today has suggested today that Robert Redford is a racist for having opposed the Bush Administration’s attempts to auction 103,000 acres of National Park land for oil & gas development. They justify their claims saying inner-city families are facing high energy prices this winter and those prices are a direct result of environmentalism. Furthermore they said this equated to racism as a large portion of inner-city families are black.

So if you’re keeping score at home not only did white people create HIV to mess with black people, they then mismanaged disaster response, & have now resorted to environmentalism as an indirect way to smite black people. It’s a very egocentric approach to the world.

I really don’t get it, what does ‘white America’ have to do to appease this very vocal group of African-American activists. There’s a black guy in the White House, what more do you want? Should we just destroy every aspect of our environment & donate the proceeds to inner-city heating bills? It’s not like white people ever have to pay for their own heat.

Bees sue creators of ‘The Happening’ for poorly portraying Colony Collapse Disorder, they demand their $11 Dollars back

I watched ‘The Happening’ this morning. That movie is hilarious, I didn’t think it was possible for people to be that bad at acting. One thing to come from the movie however was that it spurred me to look up information on Colony Collapse Disorder.

It’s a very mysterious phenomena affecting honeybees across the world in which otherwise healthy colonies stop eating & eventually disappear. That may not sound like such a big deal, but bees play a very important role in the planet’s ecosystems. They’re one of the only pollinators that can be mass utilized for commercial crops.

Theories as to why this is happening are varied and nothing more than speculative. My current operating theory is that shortly after the release of ‘Bee Movie’, bees realized they were douche bags & started to kill themselves.

Congress realizes no one likes them, decides to make inroads with animals

The United States Senate today voted to protect upwards of two-million aces in nine states. The move was largely criticised by Republican Senators claiming that the bill didn’t properly have amendments to allow oil & natural gas exploration on the lands.

Because apparently when you declare public lands you should only do so if there is financial incentive.

Clean coal, it’s just like coal!

Time Magazine is exposing the myth of clean coal. Just like those commercials that are airing which also expose the myth of clean coal. So now I have decided to quite inventively expose the myth of clean coal.

‘Clean Coal’ is the term used to describe the current modernisation at many of the nation’s coal fired power plants. Plants all across the country are spending billions of dollars installing scrubbers to limit the amount of sulfur dioxide & mercury emitted. But they’ve not really done anything to limit the amount of CO2 that is produced. That of course being one of the largest concerns over coal power.

Fishing? Not in my trench!

President Bush today established the largest marine conservation area in history. Over three hundred thousand square kilometres in the Pacific (including the depths of the Mariana Trench) will now be protected as national monuments. This status will protect the waters from commercial fishing as well as oil & natural gas exploration.

Humans can affect the planet? Poppycock!

The new European Union president is President Vaclav Klaus of the Czech Republic, and he does not believe in climate change. He thinks that it is a dangerous myth.

I think that it’s dangerous to heed the consult of a few rogue scientists while ignoring the consensus of the majority. You can’t choose which part of science you want to believe in, and which part you don’t. People will depend on science when they fly on a plane, or go to the doctor but once science becomes even a moderate inconvenience the first reaction is to bury ones head in the sand.

I find opposition to environmentalism a little odd. Even if the current scientific consensus turns out to be wrong, what’s the worst case scenario? We have clean air to breathe, our drinking water isn’t contaminated, there are some trees left?

The eye in the sky protects the tree in the ground

Malaysia has begun using satellites to monitor forest cover in the nation in an effort to stop illegal logging. They’re doing this to protect their own legal logging industry and not because of moral outrage on behalf of the environment. But still, the end result is the same, the environment will benefit. Legal logging can be planned & sustainable while illegal logging is erratic & destructive.

Dike bursts in Tennessee, fish die all across globe

A dike holding back a retention pond broke in Tennessee this morning contaminating hundreds of acres with a mix of water & coal ash.

When asked to comment a TVA spokesperson had this to say: ‘Fuck the environment’.

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/12/29/tennessee.sludge/index.html

An aerial view shows the aftermath of a retention pond wall collapse at the Tennessee Valley Authorities Kingston Fossil Plant, Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 in Harriman, Tenn. The Tennessee Valley Authority says the 40-acre pond held a slurry of ash generated by the coal-burning Kingston Steam Plant.
