The Hummer is dead

Or at least it will be soon. When asking Congress for federal aid the automakers pledged to shut down or sell their under-performing divisions, one of which is the Hummer brand. If GM can’t find a buyer (and it’s not looking likely) the company will most likely be eliminated this year.

Of course had the Hummer brand been raking in cash, Congress would have had no problem with the H2 truck’s 9 MPG. While GM doesn’t release the fuel economy information for the engines Hummers use, 9MPG is believed to be a significant improvement over previous models.

So fellow Hummer haters, put your eggs away and please look deep within yourselves to understand the irony of throwing the unborn embryos of animals at inanimate objects in order to champion the environment.

I think the polar ice caps suck

I miss Bush already. That dude was hilarious! State sanctioned torture equals good times. Have you ever seen someone waterboarded? Well I have (on Always Sunny) and it was quite funny.

The meaning of life is revealed in an exclusive guaranteed to astound

There are an amazing sixty-four countries that rely on fossil fuel for 100% of their nation’s power generation. I’m not going to bore you with all the names, or irrelevant things like “sources”. Let’s just suffice to say that it doesn’t seem like those nations are very environmentally friendly.

Most of the countries are Middle Eastern or island nations where I guess there are not a lot of alternatives. But a few names stick out as countries that should just know better: Hong Kong, Singapore, & Macau. And yes I know that all three of those countries are ‘island nations’ but still, they’re rich, they should build a windmill or something!

Moving a little bit further down statistically some interesting nations appear as fossil fuel stalwarts. Australia, Greece, Ireland, Malaysia, Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, and Thailand all rely on fossil fuel based energy for more than 85% of their electrical needs.

Taking a contrarian stance there are seven nations which don’t use fossil fuel based power generation in their country at all. Also nations like Brazil, France, Norway, Sweden, & Switzerland receive less than 10% of their power from fossil fuels.

Curious about the United States? America’s standing is at 71.4% which is 6% above the weighted average for the world.

Couple of fun facts and I’m out:

  • 1 litre of regular gasoline is the time-rendered result of about 23.5 metric tons of ancient organic material deposited on the ocean floor.
  • The total fossil fuel used in the year 1997 is the result of 422 years of all plant matter that grew on the entire surface and in all the oceans of the ancient earth.

PS: If you don’t get the headline, the purpose of all life is to die, turn into fuel, thereby allowing me to keep my house warm. So you guys get on that and in several hundred million years, I will use that stuff.

Sometimes you have to emit carbon to not emit carbon

The British Meteorological Office recently purchased a new super computer to better calculate how best to fight climate change. But the computer has a dirty little secret, it produces a ton of carbon, or 14,400 tonnes to be exact.

The Met Office says that while the computer’s carbon footprint is unfortunate, it represents only a fraction of the emissions they save through their work.

The problem of course isn’t the actual computer, but instead the way the electricity is produced. Great Britain depends on fossil fuel based power for 74% of their electrical needs. Compare that to France where only 7% of the nation’s power comes from fossil fuel. Therefore the computer’s carbon footprint would be just one-tenth what it is now if it were located in France instead of England.

So my answer to the problem, outsource to France!

Animal conservation brought to you by KFC, the same people who brought you animals in buckets

I went to the Singaporean Zoo not too long ago. It’s a beautiful zoo with a lot of animals, and the overall theme of zoo is that of animal conservation. But in true capitalist style they have corporate sponsorships of the animal exhibits.

Now I don’t care if Pepsi decides to sponsor a penguin, because for all I know Pepsi has never done anything to birds in general. But it is not cool that KFC was the sponsor of many exhibits at the zoo. Those are the same people that slam chicken’s heads into walls for fun. Not even joking:

http://www.kentuckyfriedcruelty.com/

To make matters worse the zoo actually had a KFC on the premises. A zoo that professes a love for animals & then accepts the money of KFC is an oxymoron. The zoo should have vegetarian dining, or at least have like a Quizno’s or something.

I sent a strongly worded letter to the zoo but my complaints fell on deaf ears. I even sent them a link to Kentucky Fried Cruelty but they still weren’t convinced. But never fear! I’ve forwarded this issue to PETA. If I know those guys & I think I do, this is the type of stuff that gets their panties in a bunch. I just hope they’re not too busy with their new campaign to rebrand cows as ‘land seals’.

Meanwhile write the Singaporean zoo and see if they’re even aware of their hypocrisy.

Yes we can! Kill some cows!

The current stimulus package making the rounds through Congress & being championed by Obama has money to make virtually everyone happy, but it will not make too many cows happy. Lawmakers are looking for ways to increase the price of milk which they’ll most likely achieve by reducing the nation’s dairy herd.

Of course when they send that many dairy cows to slaughter it’ll reduce the price of meat, but hey that’s another stimulus package’s problem.

Only the strong survive, long enough to get shot in the face

A new study released earlier this week claims that through large scale hunting/gathering humans have become the driving evolutionary force in the animal kingdom.

When humans hunt/fish they generally go after the largest animal. By killing the largest or strongest animal it leaves other less genetically desirable animals to mate in their place, and that puts a kink into natural selection. As a result animals are becoming smaller & reproducing earlier, and when animals reproduce at an earlier age they tend to have less offspring which just exacerbates the problem.

Robert Redford: Tree hugger or Klu Klux Klan member?

The Congress of National Equality today has suggested today that Robert Redford is a racist for having opposed the Bush Administration’s attempts to auction 103,000 acres of National Park land for oil & gas development. They justify their claims saying inner-city families are facing high energy prices this winter and those prices are a direct result of environmentalism. Furthermore they said this equated to racism as a large portion of inner-city families are black.

So if you’re keeping score at home not only did white people create HIV to mess with black people, they then mismanaged disaster response, & have now resorted to environmentalism as an indirect way to smite black people. It’s a very egocentric approach to the world.

I really don’t get it, what does ‘white America’ have to do to appease this very vocal group of African-American activists. There’s a black guy in the White House, what more do you want? Should we just destroy every aspect of our environment & donate the proceeds to inner-city heating bills? It’s not like white people ever have to pay for their own heat.

Mickey Rourke says no to pregnant bitches!

PETA has enlisted the help of Mickey Rourke in their efforts to convince pet owners to spay & neuter their animals. The animals however are decidedly opposed to the plan.

Breaking news! Pamela Anderson had this to add to the subject; “dogs can’t use condoms”.

I would like to see a study confirming her thoughts. I don’t think there is one, which leads me to conclude that hers is a baseless claim. I propose that dogs just don’t like condoms.
